Overview
Though the sunny blue skies and warm breezes of Florida gives a feeling of paradise, emergencies may arise for which you should be informed and prepared. Of course, your City website will share emergency information as soon as it is made available. If you notice a water or sewer line break during regular business hours please contact Public Works at 352-726-2321, if its after regular business hours, weekends or a holiday please call 352-864-2258. The following online resources also offer valuable information regarding local emergencies.

Tropical Storm/Hurricane Information:  Information regarding local operations and services (ie., sandbags, evacuation, road closures) may be obtained by viewing the Emergency Operations Center page of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office website.

If you prefer to contact the Emergency Operation Center by phone, residents can call 746-5470 or 527-2106.

  • Citrus County Sheriff’s Office: keeps citizens informed of crime prevention, statistics, emergency operation center services, as well as providing local emergency notification signup
  • Citrus County Fire Rescue: keeps you informed of local burn bans and fire prevention tips,
  • 211 can provide additional information on disaster preparation and resources available.

  • Ready America: information about storm and hurricane preparation from the Department of Homeland Security
  • National Hurricance Center: the latest information from the National Weather Service
  • Government Benefits: helps sort through a complicated network of federal and state benefit and assistance programs. In just 5-10 minutes visitors to the site can complete a questionnaire and receive a customized list of benefits they may be eligible to receive.

Private Sources
  • Progress Energy offers a storm central page providing contacts, booklets and tips in case of a power outage. If you prefer to speak with someone, customers who lose power should call 1-800-228-8485. For streetlight issues or other non-immediate concerns, such as service connections and disconnections call 1-800-700-8744.  
  • Sumter Electric (SECO) provides emergency contacts and information for their customers
