Whispering Pines Park
Looking for a park with free admission and fun for the whole family?  You need not look any further than Whispering Pines Park.  This 290-acre park complex, located only minutes from downtown and nestled among pine and hardwood trees, boasts active recreation in a pristine setting. 

Located off Forest Drive, the park is open 7 days a week, excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  Hours are 7:00am to 10:00pm daily.  View map

Tennis, racquetball and basketball courts are available at the park, as are athletic fields and disc golf.

Nature trails wind throughout the complex for the walking or hiking aficionados.  Once a missing link of the Florida Scenic Trail, hikers and walkers can now connect from the Withlacoochee State Forest on the south edge of the city, to the Withlacoochee State Trail on the north side.

Picnic opportunities abound in Whispering Pines Park!
Many picnic tables are located throughout the picnic area, children's playground and Puddle in the Pines / water playground. For large parties a group picnic area is available that includes, grills, tables and a covered pavilion.

The large pavilion, adjacent to the children's playground is available for private rentals at a cost of $30.00 to reserve half  or $75.00 for the entire pavilion. Large parties of 50 or more will be required to reserve the entire pavilion.

Also available for small party rentals is the green shade structure to the left of the Puddle in the Pines. Times and prices are listed below.

9am -12:30pm - $30.00
1pm -  4:30pm - $30.00
5pm - Dusk -     $30.00
9am - Dusk -     $75.00

Renting the pavilions for your company picnics, family reunions or birthday parties is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. In addition to that -  by having your next function at Whispering Pines Park, think of the clean up won't have to worry about at your home.

Instructor led classes are available throughout the year and are held in the Recreation Building at the park.

A youth camping area is located on the north side of the park and is available to church groups, scouts and boys and girls clubs by reservation.

Pool - Structured Programs or Open Swim

A 25-meter junior olympic size pool awaits you at Whispering Pines Park.  Two marked lanes are always set aside for lappers.  Additionally, we have recreational spring board for diving into our 10 foot area.  Have little ones?  We have a shallow water wading pool just for them where the water is only 1-1/2 feet deep.  Sign up for formal classes or just enjoy taking a dip at your leisure. 

 

Water Playground

Visit Whispering Pines Park to cool off and splash around at the new children’s water playground, “Puddle in the Pines”. This new park amenity features a zero depth water playground with various spray features that will entertain children for hours. The water playground is located up the hill from the existing children's picnic and playground area. Other new amenities in the area include two covered pavilions with picnic tables, several benches and a children's trail. The green shade shelter, which is down the hill from the water playground is available to reserve for private parties.

This area of the park was developed to enhance existing features and serve parents with children of multiple ages offering visibility and access.

Hours of Operation: 9:00 am until Dusk (Seasonally)
If the forecast high according to the National Weather Service is below 70F, the Water Playground will remain closed for the day.

Fall Happenings: In the Pines
The start of the school year signifies a change in seasons with the close of summer activities and the transition to new activities in the park . This Fall in the Pines;Storm football will be utilizing open space for practice for the upcoming youth football season. Our partnership with the Citrus County School Board will afford youth the opportunity to continue to learn water safety skills and to improve their swimming skillls. Citrus High Hurricane swimmers will practice and compete in our Jr. Olympic pool. The fall season finds the AAU Fall Baseball practicing in the park. Adults will be playing softball i the Fall Men's Softball leagues Six team are slated to start the week of September 14th. The Adult Swim Program / AAA Swim Team will continue thier workouts at the pool through October 31st.
Summer is busy time of year in Whispering Pines Park, but the change in seasons is welcomed for the opportunity  to  engage in fall activities and it offers cooler trail walks on the miles of park trails.
