Celebrating Inverness: A Florida Trail Gateway Community
Saturday, June 7, 2008 the City of Inverness and the Florida Trail Association join together to celebrate the designation of Inverness as a Florida Trail Gateway Community. Join us at 9 AM at the Recreation Building in Whispering Pines Park located at 1700 Forest Drive for a 2.5 mile hike followed by refreshments and socializing, educational exhibits, door prizes and recognition of local officials and land managing partners of the Florida Trail. A special feature will be the unveiling of the Gateway Community road sign which will be installed at the entrance to our city.June 7th is also National Trails Day—a day to celebrate trails across the country--and the event will feature information and give aways from the American Hiking Society. American Hiking Society's signature trail awareness program, National Trails Day® (NTD), inspires the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek out their favorite trails to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects.
