City Seeks Volunteers to Serve on Advisory Boards

Recruitment Drive for City Boards, Committees and Commissions are Now Underway

The City of Inverness is seeking motivated volunteers, who reflect the diverse backgrounds and interests of the community, to serve on a number of City advisory boards, commissions, and committees. This recruitment drive will conclude on December 31st. Opportunities are available on a variety of board functions.

Community members who serve on Inverness’s boards and commissions provide an invaluable service by assisting the City Council and City Staff with a wide variety of subjects and help to develop recommendations on important policy matters. Participation on a City Advisory Board is an interesting and challenging experience that truly makes a difference and an excellent way to get involved in local government and you may be involved in a number of items that have a lasting impact on the city’s future.  For this reason, becoming a board member can be one of the more rewarding experiences of your life while gaining an understanding on how local government works.

The City is recruiting to fill vacancies on the following Boards. For some groups, current members whose terms are expiring may apply to be reappointed.

  • Zoning Board of Adjustment                                             3 vacancies + 2 alternates
  • Planning & Zoning Commission                               2 vacancies + 2 alternates
  • Inverness Community Redevelopment Agency             0 vacancies
  • Code Enforcement Board                                         2 vacancies + 2 alternates
  • Architectural Aesthetic Review Committee                  2 vacancies + 2 alternates

Interested persons must submit a completed application including supplemental questions if required. Eligibility and representation requirements vary for each advisory group. Once you submit an application, we will work with you to determine the best board you are best suited for appointment.
