If your child is between 11 and 14 years of age and would like to experience what it's like to be a lifeguard, consider the American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard Camp.

The City of Inverness will offer the American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard Camp at Whispering Pines City Park Aquatic Facility. The camp will be offered on July 24th through July 28th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Registration for the camp is now being accepted. The fee is $75.00 and must be paid at the time of registration. Candidates must be between the ages of 11 and 14.

The course will teach water safety and introduce students  the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard. This course will not will not certify anyone to be a lifeguard, but will build the foundation needed to prepare students for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course. 


In order to participate in the course,children must possess some prerequisite skills, for safety:    

  • Candidates must be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) using the front-crawl   
  • Candidates must be able to swim to a depth of 10 ft. and retrieve an object 
  •  Candidates must be able to tread water for 1 minute in a depth of 10 ft.
